The geographical information in this file was retrospectively estimated.
The location may therefore be somewhat imprecise.
Verifying and refining these coordinates is strongly encouraged.
Notes on location estimate
  • The exact location can be found in this YouTube vlog made by a group of Chinese cyclists in 2020:
    • Timestamp 2:19
    • Observe that in the photograph, the slope on the left has a bump 10-20 meters from the bottom. This is visible in the video at aforementioned timestamp.
    • In their previous vlog, the cyclists stayed at Mazar village (麻扎; Mazha) south of Mazar Pass and is traveling to Xaidulla (賽圖拉/赛图拉; Saitula).
    • The next landmark along the cyclists' journey that can be geographically identified "272道班" signage at timestamp 3:44. Signage means "The 272 Highway Maintenance Crew", where 272 is the kilometre marker along the G129 highway.
    • According to this blog, Mazar village is located at kilometre mark 241.
    • Thus this location must be located between 0 and 31 kilometres east of Mazar village.
  • Geographic features can be aligned in Google Earth
    • See this image for sketch
    • Photo has the appearance of a narrow defile
    • The highway (G219) run along on the left side of the view
    • Brush in the foreground with stream of water joining the river
  • River was misidentified as Karakash River. Based on location estimate, the river is Yarkand River.
